Physician referred home care for adult patients
requiring the specialized
services
of a clinical specialist in neurology
Prior to physical therapy services,
medicaid and medicare require a written physician's referral stating:
- "Physical Therapy Evaluation &
Treatment"
- Duration and Frequency
- Diagnosis
South Carolina allows direct access to physical therapy services. In the absence of a physician referral, physical therapy services can be provided for 30 days after the initial physical therapy evaluation. Thereafter, the patient must be referred to the physician and a referral as detailed above is required for continued physical therapy services.
The client should verify with the insurance carrier that physical therapy services are covered and be pre-approved without a physician's referral.
